A week at the beach

My husband and I figured attending a wedding in Atlanta, GA was a good excuse to spend a week in Myrtle Beach, SC. Well, it made sense to us.

We arrived late on a Saturday night found our condo and a so-so restaurant. But the highlight of the evening was the Costal Wine Boutique. We meet a number of very friendly people there. Let’s just say they asked us to leave at 2:30am.

The view from our condo:

Nice, huh!

Sunday and Monday the weather was cool and overcast but we still made our way up and down the beach to check out the scenery. We also discovered a few “watering holes” along the way.

I'm partial to sailboats on the beach

They finally caught him!

The hazard of wearing sneakers on the beach.

Monday evening we ate dinner at the Sea Captain’s House. It came highly recommended from my nephew, a former Myrtle Beach resident. He was so right; dinner was delicious and the hush puppies are to die for.

I will continue my vacation post tomorrow, lest I bore you all!

A Sense of Place Photowalk

Kat taught her wonderful a Sense of Place workshop Saturday May 13th in Las Vegas. We spent the morning in a classroom setting. I really enjoyed her approach. Instead of standing in front of the room with a Power Point presentation we all sat around a table, sharing. Kat gave us opportunities to think about the way we each capture "place". We chatted about our individual styles and even shared a photo or two.

We took a break from the workshop to enjoy a delicious lunch provided by the ladies at Selah {an art salon}.

Once the classroom portion of the workshop wrapped up we hit the streets of Vegas to practice some of the techniques Kat shared with us.

It was an awesome experience and I would encourage anyone who enjoys shooting “places” to check out Kat’s workshop.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas…

Not this time!

Last weekend I had the awesome opportunity to spend some time learning from Kat Sloma at her  a Sense of Place workshop at Selah {an art studio} in Las Vegas.

Friday night Kat, her friend Rainie and I wandered around Fremont Street where there is neon galore. Kat was so kind to share some night shooting secrets. She helped me with my camera settings and even taught me a cool “light painting” technique (which I clearly need more practice mastering).

My attempt at the "light painting" technique.

I will share some of my shots from Saturday in another post. What a great experience.

Road Trip continued...

Well our actual road trip isn’t continued, just my blog posts about it. A few more floral shots.

In addition to the plants and aquarium we also spent quite a bit of time shooting in the hummingbird aviary. Honestly, the hummingbirds were quite co-operative.

It was such a lovely day. I hope we can do it again soon.
