I
participated in Kat Sloma's Liberate Your Art postcard swap for the third year
in a row. For those of you unfamiliar with this annual event, let me give
you a quick overview. It is open to all who want to participate. When you sign
up Kat e-mails you the information. You are asked to submit five postcards with
images of your art, postage and return address labels. Once the deadline has
passed Kat begins “swapping” the postcards. She sends them out in various
mailings. In the end you receive five postcards from random participants and
one card from Kat.
This is the postcard I
submitted this year:
The swap
has its own Facebook page and when participants start receiving cards they
photograph them and link the photos to the page. Its great fun! The Facebook
page is a great way to see cards you may not receive; in addition Kat puts
together a video available to all participants that includes a shot of each and
every card.
This year
three recipients of my postcard contacted me. The swap is a great way to meet
new online friends who have a common interest. It is also a fantastic way to
see all kinds of different art. You never know, you may get a postcard that
prompts you to try something new or seek out a new image to capture.
