Disney: Part 2

Of course we couldn’t fly all the way from Phoenix to Orlando and run 12.1 miles around the parks without actually stopping for a visit. Monday after all participants had completed their respective races we loaded the gang up and headed to the Magic Kingdom. Michael and I only had one day to do the park thing so we figured we’d stick with the icon.

"Get out of the way people"

Our daughter is a huge Peter Pan fan, I mean tattoo huge (and don’t even mention Tinker Bell to her) so she suggested we get our photo taken with Peter. Not wanting to disappoint, we obliged.

Flying with Peter

He remained in character the entire time and it was actually quite entertaining. My past experience with characters has been with those that don’t speak so it was fun to engage in conversation with Peter Pan. As one would expect from a Disney employee, he was very authentic.

Now we are back home and jumping back into our regular routine. Oh and the laundry is all done and put away. Always a dreaded post vacation task. But the boxes with our Christmas decorations haven’t made it back to the attic and I’ve run out of excuses. (It’s always something, huh?) So off I go to the garage to check that off my to-do list.

I wish you all a great weekend and hoping your to-do list is short. All you football fans enjoy the games tomorrow; we’re getting down to the wire.

Because you can't help but smile when you see this!

Success!

I'm. Done!
I successfully navigated my way through Epcot, the Magic Kingdom and HOARDS of runners to complete the Disney World 1/2 Marathon!!! And I gotta say I'm happy it's over.
It wasn't the miles that kicked my butt, it was the weather. I've been training in the morning in the desert, winter temps in the high forties and practically no humidity. But today at race time it was in the mid 60's with humidity of about 99%. Oh my goodness, by mile three I was ready to call it a day. Thankfully I was running with friends who kept me motivated. After the sun came up it actually cooled off and the humidity wasn't as bad so the last 10.1 miles were better (still a challenge, but better).

It's really a fun race. Lots of characters and bands along the parade route. Many of the runners would line up to have their photos taken with the characters. I did not, I was too focused on finishing the darn thing.
And what's next? A Ragnar, two days, 12 runners and 200 miles.

Let the training begin!!!

Ready to run!

Tomorrow is the big day! After months of training it's finally race time.
I traveled to Disney World with a group of friends from the gym. I am running a half marathon from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom and back. We picked up our race bibs today and shopped a little.
We'll be heading out at 3:30am for our 5:30am race start.
So I'll make this short so we can head out for dinner and then to bed early.

I'll keep you posted...

Postcard time again.

Once again Kat Sloma is hosting the Liberate Your Art postcard swap. This is a wonderful event and I look forward to it every year. Participants receive postcards from artists all over the world. It’s a great way to “meet” new people and connect through a common passion.

I always stress over the image I am going to use for my postcards which is really a blessing in disguise. It forces me to get out with my camera and capture something I feel is “postcard worthy”.  Some years my images are better than others but it’s the effort that counts, right?

I encourage you to join us this year. If you can have an image of your art printed on a postcard you are in!!

If you have questions or concerns I am happy to help, of course you can reach out to Kat to get the official answers.

Happy New Year

Well, well, it’s been a year since I started this blog and oh my have I failed miserably.
So here I am taking yet another stab at this blogging thing.

Since I haven’t posted anything since July I put this collage together with a few highlights of the past five months (because I know you are curious). J

1.     We celebrated my mom’s life with a lovely memorial service in Wyalusing, PA
2.     A weekend with our dear friends in San Diego. We spent an afternoon enjoying cold beverages on the Sundeck at the Del
3.     September 4th was a big day for us, our granddaughter’s first birthday.  We celebrated with family and friends on September 7th.
4.     The traditional first birthday “smash cake”.
5.     We took our granddaughter to the local Wild Animal Park. A first visit for all of us.
6.     Celebrating my belated Mother’s Day gift with a trip to Buffalo, NY. We took my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter with us.  This shot was taken on the Canadian side of  the Niagara Falls.
7.     The game!! (my actual gift) Bills and Chiefs. We lost but the day was fun in spite of that.
8.     Christmas Eve. We had “a few” friends over to celebrate the holiday.
9.     Our granddaughter’s first trip to Zoolights at the Phoenix Zoo.

That brings you up to speed.

I’m hoping to do better in 2014.

I hope this upcoming year brings you good health, good times with loved ones and much happiness.
